11 Gorgeous Waterfalls in Wisconsin You Must Visit

The spring is one of the finest seasons for exploring waterfalls in Wisconsin.
In certain locations, the rushing waterfalls and torrential whitewater caused by the melting snow and spring rain will reduce to a trickle as the summer unfolds.

It goes without saying that Wisconsin is rich in scenic beauty everywhere you look, but these less popular natural wonders are real treasures just waiting to be discovered.

These 10 waterfalls in Wisconsin are all deserving of a spot on your Wisconsin bucket list, regardless of their size, accessibility, or rocky or forested terrain.

1. Lost Creek Falls

You might have this secluded gem on the Bayfield peninsula all to yourself when you come, which is one of its best features. Wrapped by a stunning valley, this fragile cascade drops fifteen feet over a lush cliff.

The water makes a lot of noise, yet it’s easy to cross and stand behind the screen of water. It’s a very peaceful experience, so highly recomendable.

2. Upson Falls

Upson Falls

Located in Northern Wisconsin, just north of Upson Campground, Upson Falls is an incredible waterfall that plunges into the Potato River from a height of eighteen feet. The width of this striking fall is cloudy and fascinating, similar to something out of a fairytale, even if it is not as high as several other waterfalls in Wisconsin.

Make sure you bring your best hiking shoes for the short, somewhat steep climb to the falls. You’re in the proper place if you’d like to continue the magic! With the highest concentration of waterfalls in Wisconsin, Iron County is a great place to visit Upson Falls and other gorgeous falls. Make a day trip out ofit, it’s worth it.

3. Little Manitou Falls

Little Manitou Falls

Little Manitou Falls, despite its name, is however a magnificent thirty feet high waterfall. This two stream waterfall, which cascades over a distinctive volcanic rock formation just three miles upstream from Big Manitou Falls, is the ideal location for a family picture.

Simple to get to and a great place for enjoying a day with kids. Enjoy the climb up from Big Manitou Falls or take a quick dedicated route from the main trail to the twin falls, which are situated through a dense forest of red pines and cedar.

4. Big Manitou Falls

Big Manitou Falls wisconsin

Less than twenty miles from Amnicon Falls is the tallest waterfall in Wisconsin, made even more spectacular in the springtime when the Black River plunges more than 160 feet in a breathtaking torrent that may be seen from two viewpoints at the top of the valley, with Little Manitou Falls, located upstream, crashing 31 feet over a volcanic cliff.

Normally, the waterfalls fall in two clouds, but with high water levels, they can combine into one thundering curtain.
Pattison State Park, 6294 S. State Road 35, Superior, is home to both waterfalls.

5. Cascade Falls

Cascade Falls

This stunning 25 foot waterfall is sheltered by a ravine, and access to it is by a series of stairs. You may walk directly up to and behind the foggy falls, which once supported a mill and brewery and are a contributing factor for the town’s establishment.

The Cascade Falls sign is situated beside Highway 35 in the heart of Osceola, so not in the best place possible, but the full adress of the fall is in Osceola, off Highway 243 (Osceola Road), somewhat north of Highway 35 (S. Cascade St.).

6. Stephens Falls

Stephens Falls

This little waterfall at Governor Dodge State Park may seem like a tiny stream of water in the final weeks of summer, but in the spring it flows far more dramatically into the gorgeous Lost Canyon.

With two lakes and a sizable cave nestled among the rolling terrain of the stunning Driftless Region, there is yet more to discover in this expansive park.
Governor Dodge State Park is located in Dodgeville at 4175 State Highway 23 N.

7. Willow Falls

Willow Falls

Summertime sees tourists splashing into the streams of this multitiered waterfall in order to cool off, usually after the water levels decrease. The most picturesque places to see the huge waterfall in the spring are from the viewing decks above and below, as well as from the bridge that connects the Willow River directly below the falls.

The address of Willow River State Park in  at 1034 County Highway A, Hudson.

8. Interstate and Peterson Falls

Peterson Falls

Though they are commonly mistaken for each other, both of these waterfalls are separate cascades on the Montreal River, which separates the Upper Peninsula of Michigan from Wisconsin.

Both are impressive in the beginning of spring, but Interstate is the tallest of the two, and gets the large sign on the highway.
Both waterfalls are accessible from a parking lot off of Highway 2 north of Hurley.

9. Copper Falls

Copper Falls State Park

You can experience the beautiful view of Copper Falls via a variety of paths in Copper Falls State Park, while you take a gorgeous trip close to Mellen in Northern Wisconsin. Views of the breathtaking rocky landscape and old lava flows can be seen from several locations through the tall pine woods.

The  waterfalls are a breathtaking sight when you’ve got a chance to see them in their entirety, and it’s absolutely worth the trip there.

10. Amnicon Falls

Amnicon Falls

With roughly four designated waterfalls and several rapids at almost every curve of the Amnicon River, this is one of the top parks to enjoy waterfalls in Wisconsin. Among Upper and Lower Amnicon Falls, a stunning  bridge spans the river, allowing tourists to take pics close to the mist. Snake Pit Falls crashes 25 feet into an area of water across the bridge.

The flow of Now and Then Falls typically peaks in the spring and declines in the summer.
The address of Amnicon Falls State Park in South Range is 4279 South County Highway U.

11. Wequiock Falls

Wequiock Falls

This 25 foot waterfall cascades across an exposed section of Brown County’s Niagara Escarpment. These waterfalls in Wisconsin, which are supplied by a small stream whose level decreases throughout the summer, can be seen up close via stone stairs that descend into the gorge.

To find it, go to 3426 Bay Settlement Road, Green Bay, which is Wequiock Falls Park (just off Highway 57).

How Many Waterfalls in Wisconsin can I see in a Weekend?

You can see every one of the top Northern waterfalls in Wisconsin in a single weekend trip if you prepare ahead! I suggest going through this list backwards and allowing extra time on Sunday to go home. The Meyers Beach Lakeshore Trail, at around four miles, is the longest hike, the other hikes can all be completed in within one and a half hours.

I suggest basecamping in Ashland or Bayfield for two nights, starting with Pattison and Amnicon. From here, spend Saturday exploring the Bayfield Peninsula and Sunday exploring  the Ashland/Northwoods waterfalls.
